I had a plan.
And I don't care what you say,
Or what anyone else says,
It’s a good one.
And it's either going to stop the drama,
or Kene's going to beat me senseless.
but either way, I don't care.
As long as all this bullshit stops,
I’m good.
I woke up early on Monday to take care of what I’d been planning since Saturday. I didn't end up visiting Doorstep's church once again, plus he had to take care of family things...it makes me kind of worried since he left on Saturday too. Hopefully things are not too terrible. At least I got to use the out-of-church time to get some things prepared. I’ll admit, I did some things that are a little shady...
Nobody knew what my plan was. All I told them was a time and a place. The time is 8:13 AM, the place was obviously school, Ranceburg Local High. I walked to school instead of riding with Scott because I wanted to get there early. Not wanted, needed. It was mandatory that I be there before anyone else, especially Kene's friends. I had to be a little sneaky with that part, but so far it's worked out. Right now it is 7:53 AM, April 13th of 2009; and for the first time in my life, I’m being literal.
"Hey, Kari," whispered Jimmy. The guys all walked stealthily towards me as I stashed my body behind a wall adjacent to Kene's locker. For once, Tommy was here...he never comes to school. He, Jimmy, Scott and Puppy all were lined up behind me. "What exactly are you going to do?"
"I'm being literal." I sat crouched down with a small pair of binoculars and watched her locker closely. The guys were in the back pondering what on earth I meant.
"Being 'literal?'" Tommy asked me. "I...don't get it."
I looked back at him. "You weren't there...I wouldn't expect you to." I quickly switched back to observant mode. The clock was ticking. It was 8:06, now.
"I have a really bad feeling about this." Jimmy sunk down the wall and sat down.
"As you should, sir." I continued to watch. I could feel my pulse going faster with every minute.
Jimmy looked at me worryingly, so did the rest of the group. "Being literal...'" Scott asked himself.
"Is this like, a prank?" asked Tommy once again.
"Somewhat..." I replied. "I’m not sure what you would call this." I clicked shuffle on my mp3 player.
Puppy shook his head in annoyance. "Can we at least have a hint?"
"I’m going to let the music tell me what hints you get." I clicked shuffle again.
"That'll make things a little interesting," Jimmy laughed.
I nodded. "Hint number one, "there's no point in asking, you'll get no reply. Just remember, don't decide. I've got no reason, it’s all too much. You'll always find us, out to lunch"...I'm Pretty Vacant."
"Um...okay..." Puppy rolled his eyes. "I can't make sense of that. Always with your fucking symbolism..."
"That’s how I roll." its 8:10 now. I’m practically shaking in my boots.
"Something about British people? Or bad music?" Tommy suggested with a smug look on his face.
"Shut it, jerrycurl.”
"Okay, how about another one." Puppy gets so frustrated with symbolism.
"Fine. Hint number two: 'if you like to gamble, I’ll tell ya' I’m your man. You win some, lose some, it's all the same to me.'"
"Really, Kari? Motorhead?" asked Jimmy with a chuckle. "You’re somethin'."
"You think I’m somethin' now," I laughed. "Oh, just you wait. One more minute...you'll get it."
Everyone crouched down as we watched Kene make her way to her locker, and attempted to open it.
"You broke her locker?" whispered Tommy.
"No," replied Jimmy. "She’s just a dumbass." the group shrugged in agreement.
"Literal...Literal?" Scott was still thinking to himself aloud. Hand under chin and all. Kene stopped a guy in the hallway to open her locker for her and I said a small prayer.
"Guys, these may be my last words." I turned to them briefly. "In the name of Lemmy...'I know I’m born to lose, and gambling’s for fools...'" Kene opened her locker finally and picked up the bag I placed in there. I gulped. And stood up. "'...but that's the way I like it baby, I don't wanna live forever.'"
"What’s that?" asked Jimmy quickly.
"Oh God, Kari..." Scott gasped. "I figured it out..."
Kene opened the bag... my heart was racing. "What’s in that bag?" Tommy bothered to ask again.
Kene turned around; her face was as red as death.so far, not saying a word. "And don't forget the joker..." I said before I clenched my lips. She threw the bag down the hallway and I bolted off.
"you're dead, Rivera, dead!" she chased after me all the way down 3 hallways and I could hear the guys running close behind, the crowd of people running grew larger over the two minutes we were running. I ran as fast as I could but she had better grip on her shoes than I did and she caught up to me. "I’ve got you this time, Princess!" she grabbed my arm and dragged me down and tried to punch me, but I dodged it and kicked her in the shin and got away, but she got me again. I ripped my arm away, but she grabbed my hair.
The last I remember, is her saying, "Not this time, bitch." with a smile on her face. And the fact that she got me good.
